FRITZ BORNSTÜCK

About

Fritz Bornstück (born 1982) works on multimedia-based works with an approach called Original Pirat Material; which is to be understood as a technique of appropriation, archiving and collage in painting. This applies to both his works on newspaper, on canvas as well as digital graphics. The point of origin of these paintings is the collecting and cataloguing of cultural relics. The artist describes this practice as cultural recycling focusing on the relicts of pop culture and thus describes his own practice as the practise of a visual chronicler. As an example, he collects newspapers from different places and paints over the main section of information. The principal information about the used material remains and provides information about the context in which the work was created. At the same time, an aesthetic friction to the parts painted over by the artist occurs. For his paintings, Bornstück uses collected image material – from B-Comics, disc covers, movie quotations, google image searches to private trash. Welcome to the Debris of Pop-Art!  Represented Mikael Andersen Gallery in Berlin and Copenhagen.
